Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment allows current S&T undergraduate students the opportunity to earn credits toward their master’s degree while completing their bachelor’s degree by enrolling in both undergraduate and graduate courses concurrently, during the last one or two semesters of their bachelor’s degree. Credits earned are specifically allocated to satisfy the requirements of the undergraduate or graduate degree.

Eligibility and Requirements

Students are eligible to apply for dual enrollment when they have obtained senior status, with a minimum GPA of:

    • 3.5 if two semesters remain, or
    • 3.0 if in their final semester

Once a student is admitted to the dual enrollment program, they must designate which courses will be taken for graduate credit by submitting a Dually Enrolled Undergraduate Graduate Credit Indication Form to the Registrar's Office. Courses that are designated as graduate credit cannot be used to meet the requirements of the undergraduate degree.

Students must take at least three hours of undergraduate credit from Missouri S&T each semester and are limited to sixteen total credit hours of combined undergraduate and graduate credit per semester (petitions for excess hours can be considered by the Vice Provost of Graduate Education).

How to Apply

You must submit an application for dual enrollment at https://connect.mst.edu/apply/ using the same account you completed your application for admission to Missouri S&T for your undergraduate degree. If you don't remember your account log-in information or have questions about submitting the application, reach out to the Graduate Admissions team for assistance!

Once admitted to the dual enrollment program, you must designate which courses will be taken for graduate credit by submitting a Dually Enrolled Undergraduate Graduate Credit Indication Form to the Registrar's Office within the first two weeks of class. This form must be submitted each semester you participate in the dual enrollment program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dual enrollment and the Grad Track Pathway the same program?

No, they are not. Dual enrollment allows students to accumulate credits towards their master's degree during the final one or two semesters of their bachelor's degree program. The Grad Track Pathway (GTP) program permits students to complete a specific set of courses that count towards both their bachelor's and future master's degrees.

Can I participate in both programs?

Certainly, provided you meet the admission criteria for each program. It's essential to discuss your intentions with both your undergraduate and graduate advisors to ensure that your plan is suitable and feasible.

How are credits taken as a dually enrolled student charged?

While the student is active in the dual enrollment program they are still classified as an undergraduate student, therefore, graduate credits will be billed at the undergraduate tuition rate.

Do I need to enroll in the master's degree program immediately after completing my bachelor's degree to utilize graduate credits obtained through dual enrollment?

No, there is no immediate requirement to enroll in the master's program following the completion of the bachelor's degree to utilize the graduate credits earned during dual enrollment, as there is with the GTP program. These credits remain valid for future use within a certain time frame, outlined in the course time limit section of the graduate catalog. Additionally, they can potentially be transferred to a graduate program at another university, provided they meet the transfer criteria of that institution.
