Corporations worldwide have focused on improving business processes for the past two decades. In their efforts to use information technology more effectively in enabling business processes, we have seen the emergence and growth of enterprise systems, and more recently, extended enterprise systems such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), strategic enterprise management (SEM), and business intelligence. Most Fortune 500 companies have already adopted enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and many midsize companies are also planning ERP implementations. With a commitment to keep pace with these changes in business processes and technology, the University of Missouri system joined SAP's™ University alliance and Microsoft's™ University Alliance programs in order to continue and expand classroom capabilities for integrating ERP software into the curriculum.
ERP systems can be used to reinforce many of the concepts covered in the business discipline. ERP systems incorporate state-of-the-art technology, providing a comprehensive teaching tool for business and for information systems. Universities that have successfully incorporated an ERP system into their curricula find unprecedented student demand for those subjects. There is also an increasing demand for ERP-related research.
ERP can be viewed as a combination of business management practice and technology, where information technology integrates with a company's core business processes to enable the achievement of specific business objectives. The Missouri S&T program prepares undergraduate and graduate students for positions as both technical and business consultants in the ERP field.
The graduate certificate program is open to all individuals holding a BS, MS, or PhD degree in areas such as business, social sciences, technology, engineering, or related disciplines. The certificate program consists of four courses. Potential students must have the prerequisites for the courses in the program. In order to receive a Graduate Certificate, the student must have an average graduate cumulative grade point of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale in the certificate courses taken. Students admitted only to the certificate program will have non-degree graduate status, but will earn graduate credit for the courses they complete. The courses in the program will be offered at least once per year. If the four-course sequence approved by the graduate advisor is completed with a grade of B or better in each of the courses taken, the student will, upon application, be admitted to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or to the Master of Science in Information Science and Technology (MS IST). The certificate courses taken by students admitted to the program will count towards the MBA program or towards the MS IST program. Once admitted to the certificate program, a student will be given five years to complete the program as long as a B or better average is maintained in the courses taken.

- Other ERP Designated courses at the 5000 or 6000 level

Graduate certificates were designed as a gateway to a master’s degree. If a student earns a B or better in each certificate course they may continue for the graduate degree (in the corresponding department), without needing to submit GRE/GMAT scores, or letters of recommendation. A student does not need to continue on for the graduate degree, however most do. Graduate certificates were designed for working professionals who have real life work experience and may not have time to take the GRE/GMAT. Admission requirements for the graduate certificate program are also more relaxed than the graduate degree. This graduate certificate may act as a gateway to the following master’s programs:

Effective July 1, 2011, the Department of Education requires that all certificate programs must disclose particular Gainful Employment information to current and prospective students. The information that is provided in the disclosure includes the estimated cost of the certificate program as well as on-time graduation and job placement rates for this particular certificate program.
