Graduate Admission Criteria
Missouri University of Science and Technology is a selective university and does not guarantee admission of all applicants. It is recommended that students apply well in advance of the stated application deadlines. Graduate applications are evaluated holistically and admission decisions are based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to: standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and previous academic records.
However, previous candidates have had the following average scores:
In addition to test scores, applicants are also required to submit transcripts from each university attended. Unofficial transcripts can be used for the application process. Official transcripts will need to be received prior to enrollment.
International students for whom English is a second language, or whose schooling has been conducted in another language, must demonstrate sufficient command of English to successfully pursue work at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Prospective graduate students can meet this requirement through means described in: http://catalog.mst.edu/graduate/admissionsandacademicprogramprocedures/. The following minimum scores are required for unconditional admission to Missouri S&T:
- TOEFL score of 79
- IELTS score of 6.5
- PTE score of 53
Individual departments may require higher scores. Please check with your department for specific English language requirements. Students may also complete the Intensive English Program (IEP) within Missouri S&T’s Applied Language Institute.
Countries exempted from the English Language Proficiency requirement can be found here: English Proficiency Countries. Any questions or inquiries regarding this list should be directed to Enrollment Managment.
Letters of Recommendation
Applications for a master’s with thesis or PhD may also require 3 letters of recommendation. Please check with the department for specific application requirements.
